2001 Men's Nationals Reportby Andrea Sortwell 7 Colorado men graced the platform at the men's nationals last weekend (i.e. July 13-15 -ed.) in Omaha. As always, Coloradans represented half of the 148's. Jeremy Arias came out on top, on an 5 for 9 day I believe. Keith Scisney had some strong squats for a 4th place finish. Mark Sigala went only 3 /9 but did get set a master American deadlift record of 601 on his opener. He attempted but couldn't get moving a 646 World master record. Next time Mark, we've seen you do it here so it will come. Chris Hughes finished in 6th. Both Mark and Chris were dealing with cramping during the deadlifts. One of these days we'll get these two guys to move up! Scott Zwaanstra had a PR deadlift to get 3rd in a very tight and competitive 220 class, which I got to announce. In the 242s, Dave Gonzales finished in 6th, but had an off day, but hopefully he'll adjust his training for next time and not peak too early. Last but not least, SHW Dan Gaudreau hit 2 big benches AFTER blowing his >bench shirt (AGAIN.....). He started with a MASTER WORLD BP RECORD of 568. Blew the shirt. Took it over and smoked it. Then he moved up to 579 and got that too! He held back a little during the squats as he was focusing on the BP records. He made a big jump on his last DL for a try at 4th, but 5th was his. His total of 1989 was an American master total record. |
